The Direct Selling Association (DSA) has praised the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee for taking action on FTC rulemaking.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The DSA commends Chairman Dave Joyce and the House Appropriations Committee for including Section 508 in the FY2026 appropriations markup. This section addresses the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed rules on earnings claims and the Business Opportunity Rule.
Section 508 directs the FTC to first prove the need for new rules. The Commission must also consider existing self-regulatory frameworks and consumer protection measures already used by affected industries before moving forward.
“Direct selling has made meaningful investments in strengthening self-regulation and consumer safeguards. We are committed to working constructively with the FTC to ensure any new approach reflects these efforts and delivers real results for consumers and entrepreneurs,”
said Dave Grimaldi.
The DSA appreciates Chairman Joyce’s leadership and looks forward to continued engagement on this important issue.
The Subcommittee’s decision highlights growing concern in Congress regarding the FTC’s proposed rulemakings. This policy rider is one of only two addressing FTC authority, showing the seriousness of lawmakers on this topic.
The DSA will continue to work closely with Congress and the FTC as the process advances.
