Grupo Omnilife-Chivas will build a new manufacturing plant in Jalisco. The current facility operates at 94 percent capacity. The project requires an investment of more than US$130 million. Operations are expected to begin within the next four years.
The existing plant sits in the metropolitan municipality of El Salto. It ranks as the largest dietary supplement manufacturing facility in Latin America. Jesús Zataraín, global CEO of Omnilife Manufacturera, confirmed the near-full capacity after a recent tour. He estimates no more than four years to complete a similar new plant.
About 650 people currently work at the El Salto plant across three shifts. Mexico plans a gradual reduction in the workweek through 2030. The group will hire 25 more staff members to support production lines during this transition.
Mexico accounts for 60 percent of Omnilife’s market. The United States ranks second. Other key markets include Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala, Spain and Russia. Spain serves as the distribution hub for the European Union.
The group projects 6 percent sales growth by year-end. This outlook holds despite current macroeconomic conditions. The nutrition line shows the highest growth rate. It outperforms the cosmetics portfolio within the overall product range.
Jorge Vergara Madrigal and Maricruz Zatarain founded the company in 1991 in Guadalajara. It began as Omnitrition de México with a small investment and few distributors. Vergara had prior experience selling Herbalife products. The firm grew into a major multi-level marketing business focused on nutritional supplements and personal care items. Vergara also owned the Chivas Guadalajara soccer club. He passed away in 2019.
Amaury Vergara, son of the founders, now leads as President and General Director. The company remains family-controlled and privately held. Omnilife produces nutritional supplements, drinks, powders and cosmetics under brands like Seytú. Its plants in Mexico, Colombia and the United States support distribution in over 20 countries.
