Herbalife Aloe Vera Recognition by AOAC International

Industry-First Approval for Herbalife’s Aloe Vera Testing Innovation

Herbalife AOAC Certification marks a groundbreaking achievement for Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE: HLF), a global leader in health and wellness. AOAC International—the global authority on analytical methods—has officially certified Herbalife’s proprietary technique for detecting anthraquinones (aloins) in aloe vera products. This includes aloin A, aloin B, and aloe-emodin, all of which are closely monitored in the botanical supplement industry for safety compliance.

What the Herbalife AOAC Certification Means

This new recognition makes Herbalife the first in the world to receive AOAC approval for an aloe testing method. Developed by Herbalife scientists, the method was validated by eight independent labs using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Each lab tested six aloe vera samples across raw and finished products, confirming the method’s accuracy and system suitability.

“This AOAC validation is an important milestone for Herbalife and the entire industry,” said Gary Swanson, SVP of Global Quality. “It highlights our leadership in botanical safety and innovation.”

Raising Global Standards for Aloe Quality

Dr. Katerina Mastovska, AOAC’s Chief Science Officer, affirmed:

“This globally accepted method will strengthen safety and quality benchmarks for botanical ingredients across the world.”

Herbalife’s method is now designated AOAC 2016.09 Official Final Action Method.

Herbalife’s Aloe Testing: More Than Just Compliance

Herbalife goes beyond typical supplier certifications by using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry—a high-level tool for verifying molecular structure and product authenticity. This ensures aloe purity from the raw stage to the final product.

The company also operates under its “Seed to Feed” program, which includes:

  • Ingredient traceability

  • ISO 17025-accredited internal lab testing

  • GMP compliance

  • NSF International certifications

This system ensures each Herbalife product is safe, effective, and consistent across 90+ markets.

Backed by Research and Global Expertise

With over 45 years of aloe research, Herbalife holds five patents and three published studies focused on aloe extraction and formulation. The AOAC-certified method has also been featured in the Journal of AOAC International
