Coway hosted the 10th edition of Coway Run in 2026. More than 11,000 people joined the event. It celebrated a decade of encouraging Malaysians to pursue healthier lifestyles and unlock their potential. The gathering took place at Stadium Merdeka and featured race categories along with family activities.

Theme “Forward Without Limits” Marks Dual Milestones

The event carried the theme “Forward Without Limits.” It coincided with Coway Malaysia’s 20th anniversary. Organizers highlighted determination, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement. Janice Tan, Group Manager of Marketing Division at Coway Malaysia, noted the special meaning of celebrating both the company’s two decades in Malaysia and ten years of the run.

Weather conditions posed difficulties during the event. Leaders focused on participant health and safety. They adapted the race format accordingly. Many runners still completed their routes. This demonstrated the event’s core message of moving forward despite obstacles.

Support for Communities Through Happy Water Project

Race routes connected to a vibrant race village with interactive activities and entertainment. Supporters engaged with Coway’s mission of healthier living. A portion of every ticket sold supported the Coway Happy Water Project. This initiative provides clean water access to underserved communities.

Founding of Coway by Yoon Seok-keum in 1989

Coway Co., Ltd. began in South Korea in 1989. Entrepreneur Yoon Seok-keum founded it under the Woongjin Group as Woongjin Coway. He built his early career through door-to-door sales of encyclopedias and cosmetics. The company started with water purifiers and expanded into environmental home appliances focused on health and wellness.

Ownership Changes and Current Leadership Structure

Coway faced several ownership shifts over the years. Woongjin Group sold majority shares to private equity firm MBK Partners around 2012-2013. Woongjin briefly reacquired it in 2018 before selling again. Netmarble became the largest shareholder in 2019 with about 25-27% ownership. Current key leaders include Chairman Bang Jun-hyuk and CEO Seo Jang-won. The company remains listed on the Korea Exchange.

Core Products and Innovative Rental Business Model

Coway manufactures water purifiers, air purifiers, bidets, water softeners, mattresses, and related wellness appliances. It pioneered a rental subscription model in 1998. Customers pay monthly fees that include installation, filter changes, and regular in-home service. This approach made high-quality products more accessible and remains central to the company’s success in Korea and abroad.

Strong Growth of Coway Malaysia Since 2006

Coway Malaysia launched as a subsidiary in 2006. It has become the company’s largest overseas operation and a major revenue contributor. The subsidiary serves over a million customers and leads the local water purifier rental market. Success factors include the first Halal certification for water purifiers in the industry and strong localization efforts. The brand continues promoting healthier living through products and community events like Coway Run.
